What? Beginning Spanish (Grades 1, 2 & 3)
When? Wednesdays, Sept. 10 - Dec. 17, (5-6:30PM, Grades 1-3)
**15 lessons following Frankfort Community School's schedule for breaks/holidays
Where? Purdue Extensions Learning Network, 1111 S. Jackson St., Frankfort
Why? To give kids a head start on learning a second language and offer them a "communication advantage" to better compete in a global economy.
How Much? $2 per lesson ($30 total per student)
Materials Fee $12 per student for personalized binder with Spanish learning resources (if the student doesn't already own one)
Curriculum
In Beginning Spanish (grades 1, 2 & 3), we'll focus on learning conversational vocabulary and asking/answering in Spanish, We'll work on these topics:
- Asking/answering questions about what students are doing (watching TV, dancing, studying, writing a letter, etc.)
- Asking/answering questions about what students have/are doing at school
- Identifying things/people in a school
- Identifying clothes items/describing clothes items
- The Spanish alphabet and how to read/write words in Spanish
Fiestas
In addition to this basic curriculum, we will study and celebrate two Latin American "fiestas" this fall: El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Las Posadas (Christmas).
